Kalest Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 26, 2026

Kalest (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is operated by HomeShopper AI Inc., 9655 49 Ave NW, Edmonton, Alberta T6E 5Z5, Canada (“HomeShopperAI”). This policy explains what we collect when you use Kalest and the kalest.ai website, why, where it goes, and the choices you have.

The short version: we collect what the product needs to work and nothing else. We don’t sell your data, we don’t run advertising, and we don’t use tracking across other companies’ apps or websites.

1. What we collect

Account information. When you sign in with Google, Apple, or email and password, we receive your email address and a unique account identifier from Firebase Authentication (a Google service, which manages your password if you use one — we never see or store passwords). We also record whether your email address is verified and which sign-in method you used.

Food photos. When you scan a meal or an ingredient label, the photo is sent to our servers for analysis and stored so your history can show it. Photos are stored privately and encrypted; they are accessible only to your account through short-lived, expiring links.

Scan results and food diary. The results of your scans — identified foods, portions, calories and nutrients, barcode products, and any corrections you make — are stored as your history. Note: information about what you eat can reveal things about your health, lifestyle, or religion (for example, allergen or halal-related lookups). We treat your entire food history as sensitive and use it only to provide the service to you.

Notes you add to scans. Optional free-text notes are sent with the photo to improve analysis and stored with the result.

Onboarding answers. Your goal, activity level, and tracking-history answers are currently stored only on your device, not on our servers.

Subscription status.Purchases are processed by Apple’s App Store or Google Play and managed through RevenueCat. We receive your subscription status (active/expired, product, store) — never your payment card details.

Usage and reliability data. We count scans (to operate the free tier and prevent abuse), log requests with technical metadata, and — when crash reporting is enabled — send crash and error reports to Sentry with personal information collection disabled.

Website waitlist. If you join the waitlist on kalest.ai, we store your email address. Waitlist submissions are rate-limited by a one-way hash of your IP address; the raw IP is not kept for this purpose.

2. How photos are analyzed (AI processing)

Your food photo is analyzed by a vision AI model (currently Google’s Gemini API) to identify foods, estimate portions, or read label text. The AI model never determines calorie or nutrient values — those come from licensed nutrition databases (such as USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts), and every number in your results carries a reference to its database source. Photos are sent to the AI provider solely to produce your result; we do not permit our providers to use your photos to train their models under the API terms we rely on.

3. What we do NOT do

  • We do not sell or rent your personal information.
  • We do not show ads or share data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We do not use your photos or food history for any purpose other than providing and improving your own experience of the service.
  • We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). Kalest is not directed at children.

4. Where your data lives

Our servers run on Amazon Web Services in the European Union (Frankfurt, eu-central-1). The kalest.ai website is served by Vercel. Authentication is provided by Google Firebase. Depending on your location, your data may be processed in countries other than your own; where required, we rely on our providers’ standard contractual safeguards.

5. How long we keep things

Your account data, scan history, and photos are kept while your account is active. When you delete your account (Settings menu → Delete account), your account is deactivated immediately, your sign-in identity is deleted, and your data is removed from active systems; residual copies in encrypted backups expire on our backup rotation schedule. Waitlist emails are kept until launch outreach completes or you ask us to remove yours.

6. Your rights and choices

  • Delete your account and data — in the app, no request needed.
  • Access or export — contact us and we will provide a copy of your data.
  • Correct — scan results can be corrected directly in the app.
  • Depending on where you live (for example the EU/EEA, UK, or Saudi Arabia), you may have additional legal rights such as objection or restriction of processing. Contact us to exercise them, and you may lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

7. Not medical advice

Nutrition information in Kalest is an estimate for general guidance. It is not medical, dietary, or allergy advice. Always verify allergen information on the physical product packaging; never rely on a photo scan for allergy safety decisions.

8. Changes and contact

If we materially change this policy we will notify you in the app before the change takes effect. Questions or requests: hello@visualizeai.pro.
